Led Zeppelin Guitar FAQ

Good Times Bad Times and Immigrant Song are great starting points β€” both have iconic riffs that are approachable for intermediate players. For acoustic beginners, Going to California is one of Jimmy Page's most beautiful fingerpicking pieces and very learnable with some patience.
The famous intro fingerpicking pattern can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on your current level. The full song β€” including the electric solo β€” is a longer journey, but I've broken it into four dedicated lessons so you can tackle it one section at a time.
Jimmy Page used many guitars, but his most iconic is the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard. He also played a Fender Telecaster on early recordings and a custom double-neck Gibson EDS-1275 live for songs like Stairway to Heaven. For acoustic work he favored a Harmony Sovereign and a Martin D-28.
Some songs do use alternate tunings. Kashmir uses DADGAD tuning, which gives it that hypnotic droning quality. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and several acoustic pieces benefit from open or dropped tunings. I walk through any tuning requirements at the start of each lesson so you're always set up correctly.
Led Zeppelin covers a wide range of difficulty. Some of their acoustic songs are genuinely accessible to dedicated beginners. The heavier electric material β€” particularly solos and complex riffs like Black Dog β€” requires intermediate to advanced technique. My lessons break everything down step by step so you can build up to the harder parts.
Jimmy Page's style draws on fingerpicking, bluesy bending and vibrato, pentatonic soloing, open and alternate tunings, and rhythmic riffing with a lot of swagger. For acoustic songs, fingerstyle technique is essential. For the electric catalog, focus on solid rhythm playing and expressive bends. My lessons cover all of these techniques in context.
