Lead Guitar Phase 1
This is where your lead guitar journey starts. I'll introduce you to the pentatonic scale, teach you your first real licks, and walk you through the essential techniques every lead player needs — bends, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and more. We'll jam in multiple keys so you can hear everything in a real musical context. By the end you'll have a solid foundation to build on.
Lead Guitar Phase 2
Time to go deeper. I'll show you the blues scale, how to use passing tones, and how to think like a soloist — including the importance of motifs and space in your playing. We'll expand into the extended pentatonic scale and build out your lick vocabulary with classic phrases you can use in any blues or rock context.
Lead Guitar Phase 3
In Phase 3 we start connecting the whole neck. I'll show you new positions of the pentatonic scale, how the blues notes fit into each one, and how to smoothly move between sections so your solos aren't stuck in one spot. By the end you'll be navigating the fretboard with confidence and adding real expression to everything you play.
Mixing Major & Minor Pentatonics
This is where your solos start to get interesting. I'll show you how to blend the major and minor pentatonic scales to add sweetness, grit, and real musical flavor to your playing. You'll learn passing tones, bending concepts, and a collection of licks that show you exactly how to switch between the two scales mid-solo — the way the pros do it. By the end, you'll have a toolkit of phrases you can drop into any jam.
BB Box Techniques
The BB Box is one of the most useful positions on the neck — and one of the most overlooked. I'll show you how to find it in any key, and how to use it to play the kind of expressive, soulful phrases you hear from players like BB King and the Allman Brothers. You'll work through bends, double stops, repeating lick patterns, and smooth transitions in and out of your minor pentatonic home row. Mix it with what you learn in the other Tasty Zone courses and your solos will start to have real personality.
Voodoo Blues Scale
This one's a spicy little twist on the minor pentatonic that most players never discover. By swapping one note you get a totally fresh sound — something that immediately makes your licks feel more sophisticated and unexpected. I'll show you where to find the Voodoo Blues notes in multiple positions across the neck and how to weave them into your existing minor pentatonic and BB Box playing. It's a small addition with a big impact.
Double Stops You Can Use
These are straight from my own bag of tricks. Double stops — playing two notes at a time — are one of the fastest ways to add texture, melody, and feel to your solos and rhythm playing. I'll take you through my favorite double stop devices across blues, major, minor, and funky contexts, including the techniques used by Hendrix, John Mayer, and John Frusciante. Whether you're comping over a blues progression or looking for something to make your solos sing, there's something in here you'll be using for the rest of your playing life.
Essential Guitar Licks
This is your lick library. I'll walk you through 30+ essential licks across five keys — E, A, C, G, and D — covering everything from hammer-ons and pull-offs to double stops, finger rolls, bends, and blues scale runs. Each lick builds your vocabulary and your technique at the same time, with jam tracks along the way so you can put them to use immediately. By the end you'll have a deep collection of go-to phrases you can pull out in any musical situation.
Major Pentatonic
Most players spend all their time in the minor pentatonic — this course is your introduction to the brighter, sweeter side of lead guitar. I'll show you how to find the major pentatonic in multiple keys, how it relates to the minor pentatonic, and how to add blues notes to give it some grit. Includes jam tracks so you can apply everything you learn in a real musical context.
Major Pentatonic Licks
I'll take you through a full collection of major pentatonic licks across multiple keys — G, C, and E — so you can start building real vocabulary on the neck. You'll work through hammer-ons, bends, double stops, country-style phrases, and extended scale runs, with jam tracks along the way to put everything into practice. By the end you'll have a go-to library of melodic licks that brighten up any solo.
5 Shapes of the Pentatonic Scale
If you've only been playing out of one position on the neck, this course is going to open things up. I'll walk you through all five shapes of the minor pentatonic scale — including where to find the blues notes in each one — so you can start connecting the whole fretboard instead of getting stuck in the same spot every time you solo.
Pentatonic Scale Exercises
Every guitarist wants to be better at soloing, so I put together my most useful pentatonic exercises all in one course. We'll work on building melodies and phrases while improving your left and right hand technique at the same time. The best part — each exercise is great for your "couch routine," something you can run through unplugged while you're watching TV. I've been playing over 25 years and I still run these myself.
